Combat Dance

I witnessed my second combat dance ever, and it was really something to see in the wild. It didn't last long but the two male snakes engaged in "battle" before the weaker snake gave up and retreated. The "winner" came back and claimed his territory. You can see the video on my website at www.thetimberrattlesnake.com/video.html.

Enjoy! and while you're there, order a 2010 Timber Rattlesnake Calendar!

Processing Snakes

Well, I take back everything I said about the nuisance snakes this year. We've had several big males in the neighborhood which we've picked up and relocated. We have started processing the snakes we pick up before releasing them. That entails tubing them, measuring, weighing and marking their tails. We can then keep track of their travels for the rest of the season. It will be interesting to see where they end up. . . hopefully not back in the neighborhood.
